Incisions are made in the abdomen and uterus during c-sections, also known as cesarean sections or cesarean deliveries, in order to deliver the baby. When a vaginal delivery is not possible or safe, or when the health of you or your unborn child is in danger, they are performed. Anesthesia preparation is necessary prior to a C-section. You are awake during delivery because an epidural is typically used during planned C-sections. However, there are times when you're unconscious as a result of general anesthesia. Your abdomen will be cleaned with an antiseptic, and an oxygen mask may be placed over your mouth and nose to increase the amount of oxygen your baby receives. Your doctor will then drape a sterile material over the area of your incision, your legs, and your chest. Finally, a sterile curtain or drape is placed between your head and lower body by your medical professionals. The obstetrician will then make a cut through your skin and into the abdominal wall after that. They might create a vertical or transverse incision. A horizontal incision is also known as a bikini incision.
